Color Rendering Index (CRI) is the measurement of how colors look under a light source when compared with sunlight. Having information on the CRI of a LED strip light is important because you want to make sure that the colors are being accurately represented by the light source. CRI is measured on a scale from 0-100. A CRI of 80+ is the industry-standard for most applications while a CRI of 90+ tends to be necessary for situations that need color accuracy. Our high CRI series are used for photography lighting, retail lighting, bathroom or salon lighting, and residential lighting.
The four digits represent the size of the chips in millimeters. So the first difference is size:SMD 3528 chip is 3.5 mm X 2.8 mm. And SMD 5050 chip is 5.0mm x 5.0mm. As the size of 5050 LED is larger than 3528 LED, so in most cases, they matched for different PCB width and thickness:SMD 5050 LED Strip is normally 10mm width, SMD 3528 LED Strip is normally 8mm width.
Second difference is SMD 5050 chips have 3 LED diodes in one housing (sometimes called tri-chips), SMD 3528 have 1 diodes in one housing. That means each individual 5050 LED chip is a lot brighter than individual 3528 LED chip.As higher brightness means more heat dissipation, so SMD 5050 require wider and thicker PCB to draw heat away form the chips.
Third difference is that 5050 LED Chip can combine three different chips into one housing, which means it can create millions of color variations.So when goes to RGB colors, 5050 LED is better. When goes to high density for single color applications,3528 LED is more suitable.
